New PremiumContact 6 impresses in AutoBild tire test with best overall braking characteristics

27/02/2017
  • Summer tire from Continental wins the first test phase to qualify for the final and is now available from dealers in 70 sizes for rims from 16 to 21 inches

  • Full AutoBild test report available from March 10, 2017

With the shortest aggregate braking distances on wet and dry roads, the new PremiumContact 6 in size 225/50 R 17 finished top in the first part of the summer tire test run by AutoBild and duly qualified for the second test phase. Only the top 20 from a total of 52 tires from European, American and Asian manufacturers will make it to the final round. The magazine’s testers fitted the tires to a 3-series BMW and braked them to a standstill from 100 km/h on dry roads and from 80 km/h in the wet.

At 69.9 meters, the PremiumContact 6 was the only tire to remain below 70 m when the two test results were added together. With this new summer tire, Continental successfully bridges the gap between a sedan tire with high ride comfort and a tire for sporty models and SUVs. The new PremiumContact 6 combines the highest safety characteristics with a high level of comfort, good environmental performance and a precise steering response. The outcome is a product that delivers an improvement in mileage of up to 15 percent and a reduction in rolling resistance of five percent, without compromising on safety characteristics. The premium products from Continental with their top-level safety characteristics make a very specific direct contribution to greater road safety and thus support the leading German tire manufacturer’s long-term target positioning: Vision Zero. The new PremiumContact 6 is now available from dealers in 70 sizes for rims from 16 to 21 inches to fit passenger cars and SUVs and will gradually replace its two predecessors, the ContiPremiumContact 5 and ContiSportContact 5.
