ContiPremiumContact 5 finishes first in summer tire test run by ACE, GTÜ and ARBÖ

01/03/2017
  • Continental summer tire impresses with outstanding balance

  • A total of 11 tire models in size 215/60 R 17 for smaller SUVs lined up for the start

  • Successor model PremiumContact 6 already available from dealers

In the recently published joint summer tire test staged by ACE, GTÜ and ARBÖ, the ContiPremiumContact 5 drove neatly into first place. The tire, which was awarded the top rating of “highly recommended”, returned the shortest braking distances on wet and dry roads in the test. It showed no weaknesses in any of the other tests on wet and dry roads and also finished among the best models for rolling resistance. This demonstrated once more that, in independent tests, tires can only emerge at the head of the pack if virtually all their characteristics are at the highest technological level. The tested size 215/60 R 17 mainly suits many of the smaller SUVs; the test vehicle in this case was an Opel Mokka.

As the summer tire season begins, the new PremiumContact 6 will gradually replace both the test winning ContiPremiumContact 5 and the ContiSportContact 5 – with 70 sizes initially available for rims from 16 to 21 inches. The new flagship tire combines top safety characteristics with a high level of comfort and a marked degree of sportiness for passenger cars and SUVs.

When switching from winter to summer tires and vice versa, Continental recommends the “OEO” rule – using winter tires from October to Easter, and summer tires from Easter to October. Despite some already spring-like temperatures, only specialist winter tires can guarantee maximum safety margins on the cold, frosty days that are still being forecast. As Easter approaches, drivers with winter tires do well to make an appointment with their car dealership or tire dealer in good time for the switch to summer tires. With plenty of appointments still available, it’s highly likely that their preferred changeover date can still be reserved.
